Wow, what a day. Today we met up with Richard Nahem of Eye Prefer Paris. Let me just start by saying Richard is a great guy to spend the day with. He is witty, smart and knows the best places to shop. He was well worth his fee. Especially if your short on time and you want to get the right kind of stores or galleries. He also knows quite a bit about the history of the Marais and Paris in general. Any how let me walk you through some of our day.
Richard picked us up at our apartment, which happened to be a few blocks from where he lives. When he arrived he had a nice gift of cards with scenes of Paris painted on each card done by his friend Rosemary Flannery, very nice. Richard then took us to a few of the contemporary art galleries he thought we would like. I especially liked the Galrie Emmanuel Perrotin which had some great sculpture furniture done by Eric Benqué. I also like Bendana Pinel collection, there current showing Steven le Priol who did a series of drawings while at work on work stationary or anything he could find at work. I guess he liked the stress of doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing while at work. He also has a series of porceline sculptures and pink silhouettes depicting kind of macaw images. Great stuff and well worth the trip. While we were there the curator was kind enough to take us back and showed us some great photography done by Pablo Zuleta Zahr. We are actually considering one of his large pieces. The next gallery we stopped at was the Galerie Rabouan Moussion which was showing the PG Group. The PG Group are three Russian artist who worked together to make these back lit photo collages with video that take a poke at politics and current Russian events. Lucky for us one of the gallery workers was from Boston, interning for the summer and was able to tell us about PG Group.
Next on to more shopping. After lunch in the oldest open market in Paris the name of I can’t remember but it’s in the Marais we went to a bunch of cute boutique shops with Richard. Sean bought a graphite sculpture pencil at Mille et Bertaux a really cool shop. I bought some felt balls at a shop called Muskhane they had lots of great stuff. Another shop which is a favorite of Richards is Astier de Villatte they had loads of really cool things. Lots of ceramics which I have a personal weakness for. Molls got a great dress from Abou dabi Bazar one of the two she found in the Marais. Last but not least we headed are sore feet to Colette. Colette in case you don’t know is a trend setting store. So if you want to know what's going on in art, fashion, design, music etc., you go there. We loved the clothes but way to many euros for our sad American dollars to cover. We did however talk to sales person about purchasing a Martin Par photo. Both photo purchases are still up in the air. After all that Richard took us back to our neighbor hood and we said are goodbyes. So sad, I felt we had a whole relationship together in one day. Any how Richard was great I highly recommend him. Below are some pics from our tour.
